The Denver metropolitan area includes six counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Douglas, Denver, and Jefferson. All of these counties have easy access by light rail and city buses to the exciting downtown area.

Denver has a rich history steeped in gold, which drew many settlers to the mile high city in the 1800’s. The actual city of Denver was formed in 1859 with a population of 400. As a growing “Boom Town,” Denver was typical of the Wild West.

As the gold rush moved further west, Denver became a “way station” for those headed west. Originally part of the Kansas territories, Denver took its name from the territories governor, James W. Denver. Denver became the capital of the new state of Colorado in 1876.
